The Cecil Hotel Los Angeles
A little history of the Cecil hotel, the Cecil is a hotel in downtown Los Angeles it was built in the 20’s and opened on December 24th, 1924. It had 700 rooms and cost 2 dollars for a room. Even into the 80’s. I think the most I saw it get was like $15
The lobby of the Cecil hotel is beautiful and I can see where back in the 20’s it would have been in its Glory days.
When it was built it cost 2 million dollars. Im not sure what the equivalent of 2 million dollars would have been back then but that’s a lot of money now.
The hotel was glamorous and elegant. She stayed that way until the mid 30’s when the great depression was at its peak. The depression not only affected the hotel, but all of downtown. At that point it went down hill and has never recovered.
Now downtown Los Angeles is very sketchy and dangerous. It’s also known as Skid Row. Skid Row consists of 56 blocks and there are 8,000-10,000 homeless individuals that live on the streets there.
